The wonderful world of e-commerce

On Wednesday 28th October White Hat Media headed out from our offices in Brighton and entered a world of e-commerce for the day. Well actually we attended the e-Commerce Expo 2008 at the Olympia in London to be more precise. We went there to meet other industry professionals to discuss the e-commerce issues facing decision makers. Now in its second year the e-commerce expo is exclusively dedicated to the process of selling online - from delivery of relevant website traffic through to service delivery and customer retention.

Even though we are experts in search engine optimisation (SEO), we also have a highly specialist team of e-commerce website developers, so it was a good opportunity for us to find out what was going on in the e-commerce industry and obviously see if we could promote our SEO services along the way.

An additional benefit for White Hat Media of attending the e-commerce expo was the high quality strategic education seminars and keynote presentations which run alongside the event, which I might add where all FREE. These programmes included speakers from leading e-commerce practitioners including Tesco, Lastminute.com, IKEA and Otto UK. In total there will be over 60 free education sessions to attend so we didn’t manage them all. Google was also running its famous Google University sessions as well as running presentations on its stand throughout the two days.

The e-commerce expo has build on last year’s achievements by achieving an attendance figure of 3358 over the two days the e-commerce expo was run, which I am told is a staggering 34% on last years figure. The show had over 150 exhibitors which included companies such as Google, PayPal, Barclaycard and Actinic. E-commerce is a fast growing industry but we feel it is still very much in its infancy. So educational expos on e-commerce are essential if we want to see the market grow further.

To sum up, here are the words of Event Director Graeme Howe: “The conference was a huge success. I admit we were surprised at just how popular it turned out to be. We will be increasing seating capacity for next year.  We will also be conducting a lot of research over the coming weeks to get visitor feedback so that this can be fed into our conference programme for next year”

So fingers crossed next years exhibition will be even bigger and better then this one. I look forward to it!
