Google cutbacks
In these times of recession and job cuts you might get the feeling that things don’t look good when Google announces job losses. Google has recently said that they are going to cut just under 200 jobs from their worldwide sales and marketing teams.
A closer look, whilst not appeasing any of the staff who will be laid off, shows the redundancies are part of Google taking sensible decisions regarding their operations. After growing very quickly over the past ten years it is no surprise that they may have doubled up and crossed over on some roles and are now reviewing this stance.
Google has said that they will offer all workers the opportunity of being redeployed at Google and will be providing a severance package for those that leave the company.
Some people have said that this shows the ruthlessness of Google once more as they are still earning billions of dollars in revenue each year and will stop at nothing to protect their stock market price. All in all it is probably a smart business move and one that should see them continue to work efficiently in the future.
