Google Adverts on Your Television

Sarah

Going against everything they have preached in the past, Google is placing adverts on television for the first time to promote one of its services.

The new Google Chrome internet browser that was launched last year has seen Google place ads across American television channels recently. In direct competition with Internet Explorer and Firefox, Chrome hasn’t yet had the success Google was hoping for.

With only 1.4% of the market share for internet browsers, Google will be hoping that this campaign ignites interest in the service quickly. At this current time Microsoft has over 60% of the market share emphasising what a long way Google has to catch up.

The ad was created by Google Japan and was upgraded from just being a YouTube clip due to its popularity on the video sharing site. A play on the concept of a child’s play box, it shows the Google Chrome symbol working its way around the box until a web page is formed.

The ad’s artistic nature has appealed to some people, while many others have not got a clue what it represents. Google will just be hoping that it gets people talking one way or another.
