Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Almost every day I’m getting emails and reading articles on the recession and recession-beating strategies. No question, times are tough and the focus is on return on spend more than ever before. But this got me thinking why we should all be looking at digital media much more closely at the moment. What are the key elements that make it so popular, particularly during tough times?

Bing, who is actually reaping the benefits?

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Microsoft Corp. registered a 0.4% increase in their search market share in June at the slight expense of Yahoo! not Google, said comScore.

The bigger picture of the worldwide search market now looks like this (figures updated on July 9th):

  • Google 90.85%
  • Yahoo: 4.26%
  • Bing: 3.04%

32% of Bing visitors come from the US, taking BING’s search market share in the US to 8.45% (StatCounter, June 2009), an additional 0.4%, whilst Google remains stable at 65%. However in the UK Bing only represents 2.56% of the search market.

What’s in it for users?

Microsoft presented Bing not as a search engine, but as a decision search engine, offering more contextual, relevant results to help decision making. (more…)

Which is the Most Relevant Search Engine?

Monday, July 13th, 2009

I want to search a certain query in search engines. So which one do I use?  Habit drives me towards Google knowing they are the biggest player in the market, but is that REALLY the best search engine to use for my specific query? Will Google give me the most relevant results? Apparently so, according to a new study by Citigroup. Their recent analysis of search relevancy found that Google was better than any of its main competitors in returning relevant results. (more…)

Can FriendFeed Overthrow Twitter?

Friday, July 10th, 2009

You can’t now seem to pick up a newspaper or watch television without the word Twitter being mentioned at some point. Twitter, in case you have been living on the moon for the past year is a social media and microblogging website which enables its users to send and read updates regarding information posted via “tweets”. Twitter is the buzz word and is becoming the main social media website to be seen and heard on.

Managed chaos or perfect planning?

Friday, July 10th, 2009

How do you get your web projects out the door on time and to budget? Traditional project planning harps back to the days of the pyramids some 6,000 years ago. How does that translate to today’s average web project – not too well some may say.

I recently jumped on a web project management course held by Econsultancy up in their swanky new offices in Farringdon. The main thrust of the course was based around ‘Agile’ as a methodology for managing web projects.

Online Marketing Show 09

Monday, July 6th, 2009

In the scorching heat of one of the UK’s hottest days so far this year, I alighted a train and headed to SW19 and the superstars of Wimbledon. Well that’s what I would love to have done, if I was following my passion for tennis, but on this occasion I was following my professional passion – online marketing.

Five social media groups you should be talking with

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

When talking to business owners and marketing people about social media, often the stated primary objective is “more sales”. This is of course understandable but your audiences on social media are not just people who might want to buy your services or products directly but which are just as important.
