Facebook is the number one UK website

A report from Neilson Online says that out of all the website traffic in the UK nearly 50% of it is divided between only ten sites.

The major winner in all this was Facebook where it is said that one in every eight minutes online is spent on the social network site. There was better news for Microsoft’s though as their MSN/ Windows Live site came in number two and ahead of Google.

Facebook and MSN account for almost 11 billion of the 48 billion minutes that Briton’s spend online.

Social Networking sites are increasingly more popular and it won’t be a surprise to see that Twitter is competing with Facebook for the number one ranking very soon.

The majority of sites in the top ten were communication and entertainment based sites with the BBC being the only UK based company to make it into the list.

The amount of time people collectively spent on Facebook went up over 5% from the same time last year. MSN/ Windows live usage was slightly down and Google in third place was slightly up during the same time period.

Yahoo completed the major search engines making the top ten, placing fifth in the list.
