Google to take on the real time search challenge

After flirting with the possibility of buying Twitter due to their ability to offer real time search, Google is now thinking long and hard about their own ability to provide the same service.

Google co-founder Larry Page spoke recently about how Twitter has proved that real time search is essential and it is something that he warned his team about long ago. Page says he was laughed at then but his words now seem prophetic.

He also states that he believes that the web needs to be indexed every second for real time search to be successful. The success of Twitter has made Google sit up and take notice as it is now talking about incorporating microblogging search into its services as well.

With the popularity of the Facebook status updates added to the mix it is all helping to change the direction of Google. They will hope to add more relevance to the searches provided as well as providing them in real time.

Whether we actually need real time search answers or not, the keenness to add to these services should provide a better search service all around, one that is up-to-date with the latest information at all times.
