With the arrival of Microsoft’s new search engine now imminent it seems as though it is anyone’s guess what the service will be called.
The latest rumours coming out of Microsoft have the word “Bing” bounding around as the potential new name. This follows on from the other possible contenders that have been thrown about, the much vaunted Kumo, Hook and Sift.
Even if none of these names were to be chosen it shows the importance that Microsoft is placing on the renaming and re-branding of its search engine. It seems as though Microsoft has put as much emphasis on the branding and advertising of the search engine as the features it provides, and they will be hoping it is a wise move.
Search Engine Land has Bing as the favourite due to the fact that the web page remains blank and is owned by Microsoft. With the way things are going this could easily be a smokescreen and as Search Engine Land commented, that they could stick with the online Microsoft brand that everybody is aware of, MSN.
