I want to search a certain query in search engines. So which one do I use? Habit drives me towards Google knowing they are the biggest player in the market, but is that REALLY the best search engine to use for my specific query? Will Google give me the most relevant results? Apparently so, according to a new study by Citigroup. Their recent analysis of search relevancy found that Google was better than any of its main competitors in returning relevant results.
The study compared 200 queries on Google, Yahoo and Bing (MSN) between 15/6/2009 and 30/6/2009. The results were based on relevancy of the organic search results and robustness of the search experience, which included factors such as image and video inclusion.
Statistically, Google returned the most relevant organic search results 71% of the time. Bing produced the second most relevant results with an average of 49% with Yahoo trailing with a relevancy figure of only 30% of the time.
So there you have it folks, its official (kind of) that Google provides the most relevant organic search results out of the three biggest players in the market. But like any study that produces results like these, I’m always very skeptical of their findings as methodologies for judging information like this can be subjective and flawed….but that’s just my opinion.
