Yahoo Discontinues MyWeb

In another step to shake up their services and place them in a better position to achieve a higher percentage of internet search market share Yahoo has decided to scrap its MyWeb service.

In service since 2005 the MyWeb application has proved popular with users helping them to make things a lot easier in saving valuable information.

Yahoo now believes with the development of Delicious and the 2.0 release alongside the Yahoo Bookmarks service that these will better help their users in the future.

This news comes some time after it was announced by Yahoo hierarchy that the company had spread itself too thinly and needed to concentrate more on specific areas.

The MyWeb service will de discontinued on March 18, 2009 and Yahoo hopes to make the migration process as smooth as possible for its users. Outlined on their blog post http://ysearchblog.com/2009/02/13/time-to-say-goodbye-to-yahoo-myweb/ is step-by-step guides on how to transfer your data.

All the MyWeb bookmarks are saved automatically on Yahoo Bookmarks so will be available already. For people wishing to transfer to Delicious there is a three step process that is explained on the above link.

Yahoo does recommend using their export tools if you are wishing to change over to a different bookmarking service though.

A sad loss for some users who prefer MyWeb to Delicious but it may be a good thing for Yahoo in becoming more efficient in the future.
