17/01/2008 | Go to the top with natural Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
Mastering natural Search Engine Optimisation is the key to generating more traffic to your website. Natural Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) accounts for over 70% of click throughs compared to 30% of sponsored links. But how do you make the best of your natural Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) campaign ? The two stages are to break down your natural search into the search engine optimisation you can do on your website and the SEO you can do for your website.
Where natural Search Engine Optimisation is concerned there are factors which are considered to be the big three. These are content, code and in-bound links. There are many other factors but getting these right will help you considerably improve your position on Google and other major Search Engines.
1. Content and Keywords; optimising (or optimizing) your content for search engines is one of the main starting points for Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). Remember to use well written, grammatically correct content, as you are not only trying to convince the search engine that your site is valuable, but the customer as well. By continually updating your content, search engine spiders will visit more often and your website will be cached quicker. Use your keyword search terms in your content, however don't let the content become spam. Keyword density is a hotly disputed area of SEO and depending upon who you speak to, you should strive for a keyword density of 5 - 10%.
2. Code; the code of your site must be Search Engine friendly and optimised with your target keyphrases. Matt Cutts, Senior Google Engineer once said that Google uses over one hundred factors when listing sites (it's probably more) so detail here is extremely important. There are no instant solutions and the site must be optimised in all respects. Tags, (although the keyword tag is considered to have no real value), cross links, navigation, should all be optimised. Once you have your target keyword phrases, you should start placing these phrases in your site code.
3. Back Links or Inbound Links (IBLs); The way that Google surmises its SERPs or search engine results pages, is through its Pagerank algorithm. Oribinally devised by Larry Page, a founder of Google the algorithm works much like a voting system, whereby each link is a vote. If the vote comes from an important, respectable or well trusted source, then the vote is worth more. Start by looking for websites related to yours; do you think you could become a valuable resource? Why would they want a link on their website to yours?
