10/03/2008  |  Social Media sites a powerful link building method

Is it the end of all the directory submissions, article submissions and other "old" Link Building techniques?
A SEO company has to evolve with its time, especially when it comes to link building, and social media sites are one of the “new” techniques to use to get inbound links.
As Google regularly update its algorithm, some link building techniques get devalued and obviously less used, and some new methods appear.
Social media sites seem to be the new SEO toy that nearly all agencies want to use to bring more traffic but also more inbound links to a website.

Using social networking and social bookmarking sites like del.icio.us, digg or squidoo to link build is a very effective method to achieve better ranking and get more traffic to your site. Making the content on your site more visible will open up new opportunities in terms of link building. The search engine will now see user’s bookmarks of your URL with a review. On top of that, webmasters and bloggers usually get their information or news for their own blogs from social sites which mean they could give you more back links and bring even more traffic to your site! It is these links that are valuable, because they are usually high quality and will help with traffic and positions on the search engines.
On the other hand, you should not stop using the other link buildings methods. Even though directory submission is not as good as it was, it still will not do any harm to your website if you submit your URL to one of them. It may still get you higher on the search engines, and bring you more traffic. Other methods like article submission are still very useful though and will get you higher on the search engines as well as bringing direct traffic to your site.

Using social media sites to build links takes time and can be a highly time consuming task to carry like all other link building methods. But even if it’s hard to get links, the reward is great!
